Trash pickup changes necessary due to diminishing landfill and environmental concerns

Landfill space at the Johnson County Landfill, which is owned by Deffenbaugh Industries, is very valuable, and we must do all we can to use the space as effectively as possible. More trash is being produced each year, and there is no room for the landfill to expand. As part of Deffenbaugh’s sustainability efforts to preserve the landfill and environment, the company is making additional changes to its trash pickup service (see page 1 for information about new pickup routes).

• Normal residential trash pickup has been limited to six bags of trash per week. Residents who wish to place more than six bags of trash out for pickup may purchase tags from Deffenbaugh.

• Deffenbaugh is making plans to discontinue yard waste pickup in 2009 and will send information to customers once plans are in place. Residents or homes associations will need to consider new options such as mulching, composting at home, or hiring a compost pickup service.

Questions should be directed to Deffenbaugh at (913) 631-3300. Information is available at www.deffenbaughinc.com or on the Community Development website.
