City Center buildings are under construction
Imagine a new downtown-style destination where you could walk to work, shop, dine at your favorite restaurant, gather with friends, experience art, and enjoy the convenience of pedestrian-friendly urban living right here in Lenexa.
Lenexa City Center, which eventually will include more than 200 acres of mixed-use development at 87th Street Parkway and Renner Boulevard, has been one of the Governing Body’s top priorities since the idea originated during the community’s Vision 2020 process 10 years ago.
The first two buildings in City Center East (southeast corner of the intersection), which is being developed by Varnum Armstrong Deeter, LLC, currently are under construction. The first is a four-story building that will include retail and office space. The second will be a seven-story building with retail, residential, and structured parking. Buildings 3 and 4, which are in final planning stages, will include additional office, retail, and structured parking uses, as well as a 119-room Marriott SpringHill Suites hotel.
On the northwest corner of 87th and Renner, the city has approved phase 1 plans for 102 townhome units, 31 single-family cottages and a 310-unit new urbanism apartment complex. Infrastructure for this phase is nearing completion, and building construction is expected to begin in the next few weeks.
Road construction is expected to begin next year on 87th Street Parkway between Renner and Lennox as well as Renner Boulevard north of 87th to accommodate City Center’s urban-style development.
