Shared
detention systems that are publicly owned and maintained are proposed
to control both the quantity of storm water and the quality.
These detention basins will act as primary treatment removing
trash and a majority of the silt. The shared detention basins
will be approximately 8 - 9 acres of flat land that is dry most
of the time so they can be used for sports fields. This strategy
differs from the current policy that requires new developments
to construct and maintain individual detention systems on each
site. Water will be carried from these basins to regional retention
facilities or lakes by riparian greenways.
