Lenexa’s Traffic Division strives to provide a safe and efficient travel system for vehicles and pedestrians navigating the city’s streets. While this is done in part by installing appropriate traffic control devices such as traffic signals, traffic signs, and roundabouts, the traffic staff also conducts numerous traffic counts per year, maintains streetlights and assists in the setup and take down of most city sponsored events.

The division consists of the traffic engineering staff and traffic signal technicians who work together to maintain approximately 6,000 street lights, 65 traffic signals, and over 10,000 street signs. They inspect all traffic signals twice a year, relamp about 1,500 street lights a year and manufacture signs in-house using a specialized computer system.
In addition to regularly scheduled maintenance, the division responds to more than 300 street light and signal requests for service from citizens each year and also assists with the setup and take down of most community sponsored events.
Mission Statement:
To manage, operate and maintain all traffic control devices in the City of Lenexa including: traffic signals, signs, pavement markings and streetlights, for the purpose of providing efficient and safe traffic operations.
