Knives
Residents may carry knives, although the following types of knives are prohibited:
- switchblades
- knives longer than four inches
- “dirks” or “daggers”
- straight-edged razors
A switchblade is any knife that has a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife, or having a blade that opens or falls or is ejected into position by the force of gravity or by an outward, downward or centrifugal thrust or movement.
A dagger is a short-pointed instrument with sharp edges, usually curved at the pointed end. A dirk is a straight-bladed dagger. These knives are considered dangerous weapons, and can be deadly instruments.
Hunting knives in sheaths that are longer than four inches also fall into the dangerous weapons category, so they must be transported in the same manner as carrying a firearm while en route to and from hunting.
