A traffic or parking ticket is notice to you that you have been cited for a violation of the Standard Traffic Ordinance. It tells you the:
- date and time of occurrence
- location of occurrence
- person accused
- description of violation
- what level of fine the court has ordered
- information about court appearance
Tickets are issued by the Police Department and are also referred to as a "Notice to Appear and Complaint." The Police Department is not involved in collecting fines or reducing or dismissing charges once a ticket is issued. The issuing officer will take time to explain the procedure, including:
- how and where to pay the fine
- how to ask for a hearing
- how to ask for a continuance
