A motorized skateboard is any tandem-wheeled device powered by a gas or electric motor that has a skateboard-type deck and handlebars, and is designed to be stood upon by the operator, or has a seat mounted on the deck (commonly referred to as a motorized scooter).
Restrictions
Motorized skateboards:
- must comply with the rules of trespassing on private property where signs are posted prohibiting skateboards or skateboarding
- are prohibited on all streets, roads or highways, and upon any recreational path or trail distinguished by an asphalt surface
Motorized skateboards are allowed on sidewalks, subject to the following restrictions:
- must be stood upon, or if sat upon, must have a minimum seat height of 24 inches
- cannot be operated between sunset to sunrise, or at other times when there is insufficient lighting
- cannot exceed speed of 15 miles per hour
- must be operated with caution and due regard to surface and other environmental conditions
- All operators or riders under 18 must wear a bicycle helmet.
