The City of Lenexa is committed to promoting a high quality environment for the community. Regulations, including the following, are designed to preserve and protect Lenexa business areas:
Plant materials, screening structures, fencing and buffering must be maintained, repaired and replaced on a regular basis.
In commercial districts, all business and service activities must be conducted inside the building. All products sold or rented and services rendered shall be inside except for permitted drive-through services. Outside equipment storage is only permitted when screened from view as shown on plans approved by the City.
City approval must be obtained before conducting a special event.
Commercial solid waste must be stored in proper solid waste containers. The containers and the surrounding areas must be kept in a clean, neat and sanitary condition. The storage area must be screened from view by an enclosure, fence, screen or other suitable method that has been approved by the City. The containers and the enclosure must remain closed between each use.
Exterior structures, doors, windowpanes and wall surfaces must be maintained in a sound condition to prevent deterioration. The site, facilities, and parking lots must be maintained free of conditions that constitute health and safety hazards.
Inoperable vehicles must be stored inside a garage or other approved building.
Advertising vehicles for sale in commercial parking areas is not allowed.
All new signs and modifications to existing signs require a sign permit, including temporary signs and banners. Off-site signs and portable signs are not permitted. Signs must be maintained so that they are legible and complete, and all parts and surfaces must be painted or replaced as necessary.
The development and use of each commercial property must be consistent with the conditions of the building permits and approved plan (final plan, special use permit) required to engage in such activity. Increasing the intensity of use of any land or structure without authorization is prohibited.
Each business must have and maintain the appropriate City business license.
