2010 Public Fireworks Update
Lenexa is looking for a new, fun possibility for a public fireworks display – but not on the Fourth of July.
The city pursued a number of options for a Fourth of July public fireworks display in Lenexa this year, but none of those options met all criteria for safety, viewing ability, public access and overall cost.
In order to provide a public fireworks display on July 4th, the schedule and agreement with a professional fireworks provider generally must be finalized by March. Because of the time constraints associated with a July 4th display, the city is now looking at other possibilities for fireworks, such as adding a display with another existing community event for new, exciting entertainment.
Many details still need to be worked out, but focusing efforts on an event later in the year gives the community more time to plan and ensure a quality event. Updates will be provided on the city’s website as they become available.
We are still looking for companies or organizations interested in assisting as sponsors of a public fireworks display later in the year. If you would like to discuss possible opportunities or otherwise be involved in this effort, please contact Dawn Grosdidier in the Lenexa Parks and Recreation Department.
Lenexa’s other Fourth of July community events, including the Lenexa Freedom Run and the Community Days Parade will be held on Saturday, July 3 since July 4 falls on a Sunday this year. The Freedom Run begins at 7 a.m. and the Community Days Parade begins at 10 a.m. and both events will be held near the Lenexa Community Center in Old Town Lenexa.
