Concepts to be presented at City Council meeting
Tuesday, September 7, 2010
7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall

Lenexa is listening to community feedback and looking at options for updating Flat Rock Creek Pool, the city’s oldest swimming facility. The 33-year-old pool is in need of upgrades to address concerns about safety, structural integrity, operations and maintenance.

Hundreds of residents participated in an open-house meeting on July 15 and provided input about pool features that are important to them. A second open house meeting was held on Aug. 5 to share options with residents. City staff will present three concepts to the Governing Body at the Sept. 7 City Council meeting.

Director’s Presentation
Parks and Recreation Director Gary Ristow provided a detailed report about Flat Rock Creek to the Governing Body in March. Review the slideshow.

Climbing Wall Photo
Several new pool features were added to enhance the experience for residents during the 2010 swim season, including a ¾-meter diving board, brightly colored climbing wall, and new deck chairs and lounges. Check out a photo of the new climbing wall.

Amenities:
Flat Rock Creek Park has two swimming pools, two tennis courts, large natural area, .4-miles of jogging/walking trail and one playground area.

History:
The Santa Fe Trail crossed Rock Creek here and some early journals kept by travelers on the trail referred to the "Flat Rock Creek Camp Ground". One large oak tree at the site is estimated to be over 100 years old and therefore would have been there when the Santa Fe Trail was in use.
