The Lenexa Lazers Swim and Dive Team is a recreational program that will teach athletes skill and technique while providing a fun, safe and team-oriented atmosphere. The coaching staff is dedicated to the swimmers’ development, and encourages hard work and a positive attitude in practice, meets, in the water and out. The program is guided and directed by city representatives and a volunteer advisory board, comprised of parent volunteers, coaches, a swimmer representative and a dive representative.
The Lenexa Lazers Swim and Dive Team is for ages 7-18 years, and is divided into three sections: Pre-Competitive Swim Team, Competitive Swim Team and Competitive Dive Team.
- Pre-Competitive Swim Team:
Participants must be 11 years of age or younger as of June 1 to be eligible. This program is not a substitute for swim lessons. Participants will be coached in stroke technique, but should have general knowledge of three strokes: freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Participants should have completed swim lessons and be able to swim free-style competently for 25-yards with their face in the water and without touching the bottom of the pool. Practices are typically Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, and meets are held on Saturday mornings. - Competitive Swim Team:
The competitive team consists of swimmers ages 7-18 years who are proficient at swimming the length of a 50-meter pool using freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. Practices are typically Monday-Friday mornings, and meets are held on Thursday evenings. - Competitive Dive Team:
The competitive team consists of divers ages 7-18 years who are able to enter the water head first. This program is not a substitute for dive lessons. Divers need to perform three competitive dives in order to compete in the league. Practices are typically Monday-Friday, and meets are held on Tuesday evenings.
Registration, fees and schedules:
Registration begins March 1, and may be completed online or at the Lenexa Community Center. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If the roster is full, athletes may be placed on a waiting list. Registration deadline is May 4, 2012. Late fees will be assessed after this date. Refunds will be charged a $5 service fee, and will not be given after June 8, 2012. Registration is for Lenexa residents only. A multiple-child discount is available for three or more athletes within the same immediate family.
