PARADE RULES & REGULATIONS

1. All entries must submit an application to the Parade Director.

2. All entries are required to provide their own identification. In addition, I.D. numbers will be provided to assist the judges in awarding prizes. Please display the number for judging purposes.

3. Maximum dimensions of Motorized Vehicles:

A) Height: 14 feet

B) Length: Must be able to turn corners.

C) Width: 9 feet

4) Each unit shall maintain its assigned position throughout the entire parade and keep a distance of not less than 30 feet from the preceding unit. At no time shall any vehicle travel at more than 5 MPH.

5) Safety:

A) All individuals standing on any entry must hold onto a post or handrail. All individuals sitting must be completely on the float surface.

B) Individuals may not stand on surfaces higher than 8 feet without approval of the parade director.

C) The following minimum adult to child ratios will be maintained on each entry:

Ages 6 and younger 1-4

Ages 7 - 10 1-6

Ages 11 - 17 1-10

(After consultation with the applicant, the parade director may adjust the ratios so as to require more supervision).

Adults are defined as persons over 21. Adults in the driving compartment will not count towards the adult total.

D) There must be no distribution or throwing of literature, pamphlets, balloons, candy or other items from a moving entry. If items are to be distributed entrants must distribute it by walking along the parade route, along the curb line. If items must be replenished, it cannot be from a moving vehicle. The Park and Recreation Board recommends spotting refills along the route.

E) No smoking on floats will be allowed during the parade. Flammable floats such as those constructed from tissue paper must have a fire extinguisher on board.

F) No entries will be allowed to discharge firecrackers, caps, blanks, or any other equipment which would startle horses or other animals participating in the parade.

G) Only persons holding a valid Class C drivers license may operate motor powered vehicles in the parade. Mopeds, small go-carts, etc. must be driven by licensed drivers.

H) All participants riding on moving entries must not get on or off during the parade.

I) All costumes must be worn so that nothing obstructs the participant's view or the mobility of the participant.

J) Exhibition of speed, erratic driving, squealing of tires, etc., are not allowed, and the Police will remove violators.

K) Floats may only have riders on one surface. For instance, if a pickup is pulling a trailer, no riders are allowed on the back of the pickup, only on the trailer.

6) Insurance Requirements:

All vehicles entered in the parade will provide the City of Lenexa with a Certificate of Insurance evidencing auto liability insurance. Certificates can be obtained by contacting your insurance agent.

7) UNITS NOT PERMITTED:

A) The Lenexa Parks and Recreation Board feels that parades are primarily for children. Please keep this in mind when planning the theme or topic for your entry.

B) Entrants possessing or under the influence of liquor, drugs, or any other substance controlled by law and not taken pursuant to authorized medical prescription will not be allowed.

The parade director reserves the right to make additional rules and regulations or to modify the rules and regulations as he deems fit and in the best interest of the City to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents.
