This division is responsible for handling all city legal matters that are not prosecution or risk management in nature. This includes:
- providing legal counsel to the Governing Body and all other boards, commissions and city departments
- prosecuting and defending civil litigation matters
- drafting and/or negotiating various types of contracts, including development agreements, deeds and leases
- providing legal assistance with economic development matters
- acquiring property on behalf of the city, including right-of-way acquisition and eminent domain
- assisting with federal and state legislation impacting the city
- advising on open meetings and open records matters
