ISO Rating

In 2004, the Insurance Services Office (ISO) lowered the City of Lenexa’s Public Protection Classification (PPC) from a Class 4 rating to a Class 2 rating. The ISO rating classification is provided on a scale of one to 10, with one considered as “exemplary” and 10 considered “without protection.” The ISO has rated over 46,000 fire departments nationwide, with around 400 having received a class rating of 2 or less. There is currently only one lower classified community in the State of Kansas.

ISO is the leading supplier of statistical, underwriting and actuarial information for the property/casualty insurance industry. Most insurers use the PPC classifications for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties.

The proactive approach by past and current city councils for quality fire protection, and the 2001 fire protection improvement plan, along with years of work and program enhancements in fire department operations, made this ISO class rating possible.
