A defendant has the right to representation by an attorney in all Municipal Court cases.
When charged with an offense that may result in jail time, a defendant must decide whether to proceed with or without an attorney. If a defendant wants an attorney but cannot afford to hire one, the court will appoint an attorney if it finds the defendant does not have the means to hire their own attorney.
