How do I get to the courthouse?

The Lenexa Municipal Court is located at 12400 West 87th Street Parkway; just west of I-35 on 87th Street at Monrovia. The court entrance is near the flagpoles of the Lenexa City Hall complex.

I just want to pay my fines. Do I still have to come to court?

If all violations charged on your traffic ticket have a specified fine amount, you may choose not to appear in court, but to pay fines and fees prior to your court date. If any violation charged on your traffic ticket specifies 'Court', you must appear in court on your Notice to Appear date.

Payment information can be found on the traffic ticket given to you by the police officer. You may pay at the court clerk’s office, by phone with a credit card, or on-line at E-Gov.

Do I have to pay court costs if I’m just paying my ticket and not coming to court?

Yes. By City ordinance, a court cost is assessed on each case filed with the court. Court costs include administrative costs and fees paid to the State of Kansas.

I have a ticket for no proof of insurance. How do I take care of this violation?

If you had insurance coverage on the vehicle you were driving at the time the ticket was issued, you may bring proof of that coverage to the court clerk’s office.

If you did not have insurance coverage on the vehicle at the time the ticket was issued, the No Insurance Amendment information informs you of other options.

I have a ticket for driving with a suspended driver’s license. How do I take care of this violation?

The Driving with a Suspended License Amendment Information informs you of options for this violation.

Can I change my court date?

In most instances, the court clerk may grant one continuance from the Notice to Appear date on the traffic ticket or complaint that you were given by the police officer.

You would be granted a one-time, one-week continuance to another Arraignment Docket or you can request to be continued to a Prosecutor's Plea Docket for a plea agreement.

Exceptions to this continuance policy include, but are not limited to, certain traffic charges, driving under the influence, possession of an illegal drug, or charges involving a victim.

Court clerks are not authorized to give continuances on cases which are scheduled for a plea docket, sentencing or trial setting. Failure to appear for these scheduled court dates may result in a warrant being issued for your arrest.

What can I do to keep a moving violation from appearing on my driving record?

You must appear on your court date and speak with a prosecutor about the moving violation not being recorded on your driving record. The prosecutor will consider your driving record and the circumstances surrounding your traffic offense. If the prosecutor agrees to amend your moving violation to a non-moving violation, fine amounts are generally doubled and all fines and fees are to be paid immediately.

I would like to speak with an attorney about my ticket. Who should I call?

The Kansas Bar Association Referral Service can provide information on attorneys licensed in Kansas. Their phone number is 1-800-928-3111.

What happens if I miss my court date?

Call the court clerks office at 913-477-7600 to ask about the status of your case. The Judge may have ordered a warrant for your arrest due to your failure to appear in court. The court may also have requested that the State suspend your driving privileges.

What should I do if I have a warrant?

You may post your bond anytime at the Lenexa Police Department and will be given a court date to appear before the Judge. The bond may be paid with cash, credit card, or through a surety bondsman. You should appear at the Police Department with identification.
