No Proof of Insurance Amendment Information

You are currently charged with No Proof of Insurance in the City of Lenexa Municipal Court. If you had valid insurance coverage on the vehicle you were driving at the time the ticket was issued, you may bring proof of that coverage to the court clerk’s office to be submitted to the State of Kansas for verification. If the insurance is valid, the charge of No Proof of Insurance will be dismissed. If it was not valid, you will receive a letter from the Court with a new court date and your driving privileges may be suspended by the State.

If you did not have insurance coverage at the time of the ticket, you MAY be eligible to have this charge amended to a lesser offense, dependent upon meeting of certain criteria and approval by a City Prosecutor. If you are interested in amending your No Proof of Insurance charge, the following items must be completed promptly.

Obtain current liability insurance coverage for yourself or your vehicle.

This can be accomplished by contacting an insurance agent or insurance company that is capable of providing motor vehicle insurance in Kansas or your state of residence.

If you no longer own a vehicle, you may purchase a non-owner’s insurance policy that will cover you as the driver of another’s vehicle.

Proof of Restitution or Letter of Release required in cases involving an accident.

If there was an accident associated with your ticket you will be required to show proof of restitution from your insurance company for damages to the other party involved or a letter signed by the other party releasing you from any liability from the accident.

Bring proof of insurance and adequate funds to pay for fines and fees.

If you desire to amend a No Proof of Insurance charge to a lesser offense, the assessed fine is generally $300 + court costs and must be paid in full at the time of amendment.

*Nothing contained herein shall constitute an agreement to amend your citation. All amendments are subject to the sole discretion of the prosecutor.
