Lenexa has implemented a Residential Rental Licensing Program to help maintain the city’s quality neighborhoods and property values and promote the quality of life that Lenexa residents expect. While neighborhoods throughout Lenexa generally are in good condition, the city is taking this proactive step to ensure that neighborhoods do not deteriorate, and they retain their safe, attractive and friendly character. For more specific information, please refer to our Inspection Checklist. The city does have a biannual exterior inspection program in place.
The program went into effect on Jan. 1, 2008 and requires all rental property owners to obtain a license from the city on an annual basis. The program assists owners and tenants with maintaining current and future rental properties.
How to apply
The Rental Registration Licensing Summary and Explanation of Fees will provide more information about this program, as well as a program application. Completing the Rental Licensing Application will be sufficient to obtain the Rental License. Also, the Crime Resistant Addendum can be found here for your convenience.
The city rental licensing requirements do not apply to hotels and motels licensed by the State of Kansas, convents, monasteries, parish houses or rectories, mosques, temples, synagogues, hospitals, nursing homes or assisted living facilities licensed by the State of Kansas and subject to inspection by other government agencies, jails, and residential dwelling units owned and operated by any housing authority.
