Nine member body, seven members from Lenexa and two members may be from outside Lenexa, but within three miles of Lenexa city limits. When a vacancy occurs, the appointment to fill the vacancy is made by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.

The Planning Commission reviews all plans, plats, and replats of land designated for public use, and makes recommendations to the Governing Body concerning the building of all private structures, the location of streets, transportation and communication facilities, public buildings and public grounds.
