Programs encourage owners to reinvest

Tax rebate and exterior grant programs offered as part of the city’s Neighborhood Revitalization effort continue to encourage owners to reinvest in their properties and support the city’s reputation as a safe, attractive and friendly community. In 2008, seven properties (three residential and four commercial) participated in the tax rebate program, which accounted for $1.8 million in reinvestment. Reinvestment in the exterior grant program amounted to $132,000, with 21 residential properties participating.

"Lenexa is a vital and vibrant community which enables our neighborhoods to retain their unique identities and maintain their appeal for generations to come."

Improving Old Town Lenexa

Santa Fe Trail Drive reconstruction from Noland Road to Park Street was completed ahead of schedule. The historic area now has a rebuilt road with new curbs and sidewalks, and an improved parking lot in front of the Old Town shops. The $1.6 million project also included storm drain improvements and is the first in the metro area to utilize new, energy efficient LED street lights, which are rated for 50,000 hours of life for about 10 years of maintenance-free use – about double the service life of the city’s current standard street lights. The new lights use about two-thirds less energy and have better color rendition, nighttime visibility and dark sky compliance.
