The City of Lenexa has a long history of working to ensure a strong, sustainable community. In 2008, amid an uncertain economy, we continued to support our on-going commitment to meet present needs while protecting future growth and prosperity. A new revenue source to fund road maintenance, park upgrades and a new civic center was created with the voter-approved 3/8-cent sales tax. An energy audit was performed on all city buildings, and city staff continues to analyze practices to identify cost-saving and environmentally friendly improvements. The city wholly committed to using the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) practices in the development of all future city buildings, including the planned Fire Station #5. 2008 was also the year citizens came together to form Vision 2030, a community-led visioning effort that will serve as a guide to the Governing Body for community growth and planning in the years ahead.
