Lenexa’s community gardens stimulate social interaction, produce nutritious food, conserve resources, and create opportunities for recreation, exercise and education. The City of Lenexa has provided residents with community gardens in Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park since 1997 and in Electric Park beginning in 2010.
In the community gardens, residents are welcome to grow vegetables, flowers and herbs for their own use. The gardens also provide demonstrations for visitors to observe different techniques for growing the same produce at home.
How to participate
The garden season lasts from mid-March to mid-October. Gardeners sign the community garden agreement, complete a community garden application and pay a fee to participate. Gardeners are responsible for keeping their plots weeded, watered and harvested. Fees are $20 for a 10’ x 20’ plot and $40 for a 20’ x 20’ plot.
