Lenexa to pursue Google high-speed Internet opportunity
Community members can help by nominating the city online
Google recently announced plans to build and test super high-speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. The City of Lenexa is pursuing this opportunity for the community.
If Lenexa is chosen for this project, it could mean getting Internet speeds of more than 100 times faster than the average American city.
“This level of connectivity to the Internet would distinguish Lenexa from other cities by providing our businesses, residents, schools, libraries, emergency workers, healthcare providers and such the ability to interact with one another in ways we can’t even imagine today,” said Lenexa Enterprise Systems and Technology Director Andrew Davey.
To qualify, Google is asking communities to show their interest and support by nominating their city for consideration. Google is evaluating a number of criteria including current infrastructure, fiber optics, as well as the community’s interest in access to this technology. Lenexa is gathering information for the application, which is due March 26. Residents, businesses and community groups also are encouraged to show their support by nominating the community online.
