David Bryant is appointed city clerk

Mayor Mike Boehm and the City Council have appointed David Bryant to serve as Lenexa’s new city clerk. Bryant, who has worked for the City of Lenexa since 1996, brings more than 17 years of city government experience to the position.

He served as the assistant city clerk for Lenexa since 2005 and as an administrative clerk for nine years prior. During his service in Lenexa, Bryant was instrumental in creating and implementing the city’s online paperless council packet process, which has been looked to as a model for other communities throughout the country and internationally. He also has participated as an instructor for the past 10 years in the city’s award-winning Learning About Lenexa program for third graders. Before joining Lenexa, he served as the assistant city clerk for the City of Fairway, Kan.

“David is an outstanding public servant, and I am pleased to appoint him to the position of City Clerk,” said Mayor Mike Boehm. “During his tenure as assistant city clerk and interim city clerk, David has served with professionalism and efficiency.”

Bryant graduated from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) program through Wichita State University in 2002 and received his Certified Municipal Clerk designation from IIMC in 2003. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Kansas State University and an associate’s degree in business marketing from Johnson County Community College. He is a region co-chair of the City Clerks and Municipal Finance Officers Association of Kansas and has served as the organization’s newsletter editor for the past five years. He also serves on the public relations/marketing committee for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks association.

In addition to his work for the city, Bryant serves as the Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner for the Trails West District and also as the advancement chairperson for Boy Scout Troop 131 in Lenexa. He volunteers at St. Agnes Parish in Roeland Park, and serves as an assistant to the director for the children’s Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD - Catholic religious education) program for students in pre-school through the 8th grade. In addition, Bryant volunteers with the Shawnee Mission West High School band as a member of the MIB (Men in Band).
