The Lenexa Fire Department is able to provide fire extinguisher training to companies, organizations, and groups of concerned citizens. There is no charge for this service. Typically, an on-duty fire company will come to your location to provide the training. Training can include classroom lecture with a supportive video and/or practical hands on training. The classroom training requires a suitable space with a TV or projector capable of playing a DVD. The hands-on training utilizes a specialized, portable burn prop which burns propane and creates a contained and controlled fire. The fire is at all times controlled by trained fire service personnel who can extinguish the fire simply by releasing safety controls in our hand held controller. Trainees are given the chance to approach the fire, accompanied by a firefighter, who walks you through the actual steps in extinguisher use. The organization receiving the training is required to provide the fire extinguishers for the training. Typically, the company that services your on-site extinguishers can provide extras for the training of the same type you would have on-site.
For more information or to schedule training, contact the Lenexa Fire Department business office during normal business hours (M-F, 8-5) at 913-888-6380.
