Fireworks can be fun to use and observe, but are very dangerous when used incorrectly. Most fireworks are illegal within the limits of the city of Lenexa. The only exceptions are simple, ground-based devices like smoke bombs, sparklers, snappers and paper caps. Fireworks displays require a permit, which is only issued to a professional with the proper licensure, bonding and inspection. Fireworks patrols are conducted by the Lenexa Fire Department and the Lenexa Police Department to educate the public and eliminate illegal activity. Possession and use of illegal fireworks can result in confiscation, arrest and a possible fine up to $2500.
