Hearing from Lenexa’s youth was a vital part of the Vision 2030 process since this generation will be leading the community in 2030. Their perspective, fresh ideas and insights were valuable to the process.
Co-chairs Craig Denny and Mandy Stuke appointed two youth members to serve on the Vision 2030 Steering Committee:
Megan Smith, a student at Westridge Middle School and Danny Neely, a student at Shawnee Mission West High School.
A special youth meeting was held to gather input and ideas from Lenexa’s young people. An online message board was available for citizens of all ages to offer ideas and input.
The Vision 2030 committee also held a coloring contest for kids ages 5-12 and an essay contest for kids ages 13-18 to gather ideas and input from Lenexa youth. Winners were honored at the June 3 City Council meeting.
