Take a Mark Twain theatre hike on Oct. 4
Join us for Theatre Hikes® on Saturday, Oct. 4, where you can enjoy a leisurely paced hike at Black Hoof Park and watch live performances with the beautiful park as a backdrop. The event includes two one-act plays by Mark Twain at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m. Cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Details and registration

Dumpster Weekend for bulky items is Oct. 11–12
Need to get rid of stuff like furniture, appliances and electronic equipment? The next city-sponsored Dumpster Days Weekend for residents will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 11–12 at the Municipal Services Center (7700 Cottonwood). Various fees apply.

Lenexa Chili Challenge is Oct. 17-18
Autumn means falling leaves, cooler temperatures...and chili! The annual Lenexa Chili Challenge brings thousands of chiliheads to Old Town Lenexa for this free event. The excitement begins Friday night with music and fireworks. The fun continues Saturday, when teams compete for bragging rights for the best chili, salsa and hot wings. Free food samples will be available. New this year are the Kids Kornbread Contest and a Bean Bag Toss Tournament.

Protect ash trees from emerald ash borer
The emerald ash borer (EAB) has spread to Lenexa. We expect this insect to damage and kill thousands of ash trees in the coming years. Learn more about EAB and what to do if you have ash trees on your property.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Sept. 27
Need to dispose of expired or unwanted drugs and medications? It's not always safe to toss them in the trash or flush them down a toilet. The Lenexa Police Department will host a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day collection site on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Lakeview Village's Eastside Terrace, 9000 Park St.
